Climate Neutral Certified

We couldn’t be more excited to announce that Wyld is the very first cannabis company to officially become a Climate Neutral Certified brand!

We believe that taking responsibility for business-related impacts on climate change requires immediate action. As the next step in our sustainability journey, we are thrilled to say that we’re officially Climate Neutral Certified! The process to become Climate Neutral Certified has been a year long effort to measure, offset, and reduce our carbon footprint.

Sustainability and the environment have been part of Wyld’s DNA since our inception, and we're thrilled that we’re able to join hundreds of other Climate Neutral Certified brands in taking meaningful action for a healthier planet.

Why now?

Globally, almost 60 billion tonnes of greenhouse gasses are emitted each year. These are the emissions that accelerate climate change, and the cannabis industry is responsible for a significant portion of these emissions due to the resources required to make and deliver our products.

We’re acting now because scientifically-vetted solutions to climate change exist, and they are accessible to brands like ours.

“We view climate neutrality as walking through the door to start the work, not the work itself. We must do more, we will do more. We believe in giving back to the Earth what we have taken, and aim to minimize the impact of production on the environment through science-aligned emission reduction strategies.” - Wyld Sustainability Team

How did we get here?

We have worked with Climate Neutral & Ecometrica while measuring our 2021 carbon emissions, offset our emissions by purchasing high-quality carbon credits through South Pole and developed both near and long term science-aligned targets in order to develop measurable reduction strategies. Wyld has also committed to the practice of matching 100% of our purchased electricity with renewable energy certificates in order to reduce the emissions associated with our energy use and to support renewable energy production – a crucial step in our sustainability journey.

Measure

We measured our 2021 carbon footprint at 22,819 tonnes of C02 [tCO2e*]. To arrive at this number, we looked at all of the emissions created from making and delivering our products, including emissions associated with our supply chain, employee commuting, business travel, electricity and gas usage. *tCO2e = tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent

Offset

Wyld has worked with South Pole to purchase and retire nearly 23,000 carbon credits from a variety of different project types such as wind power generation, access to potable water, and forest conservation. These credits support projects that either avoid or directly remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere while providing additional co-benefits aligned with the aims of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Reduce

Last, but not least, we have implemented plans to help continue to lower our emissions over the next 12-24 months and beyond.

Our continued sustainability plans include:

  • Redesigning our current plastic child resistant packaging with more environmentally friendly materials

  • Launching our single use Fully Compostable child resistant pouches in Canada and beyond

  • Continuing to fund nonprofits and organize environmental projects and volunteering opportunities through our Community Relations department

  • Vetting our supply-chain further upstream & working with our partners to encourage them to record their own carbon inventory

  • Reduce emissions from purchased electricity by procuring energy-efficient appliances and LED lights and by optimally programming our thermostats

  • Enhancing our waste diversion processes

Wyld believes in sharing the details of this process for two reasons:

1) Our customers deserve transparency, and we want to show how we’re working to live up to our claims of climate responsibility. In typical Wyld fashion, we will walk the walk before we talk the talk.

2) In hopes that other brands will see what we have achieved and become inspired to take action.

What does it mean to be Climate Neutral Certified?

Climate Neutral is a nonprofit committed to solving climate change by making carbon neutrality simple and accessible by way of the Climate Neutral Certified label. Austin Whitman, the CEO of Climate Neutral says, “Consumers hold massive power to shape the economy, and their power is exerted through the actions of the brands they support. With our climate label, we’re helping consumers find the brands that are willing to invest immediately in climate solutions.”

Together, Climate Neutral Certified companies are working to eliminate more than 1,000,000 tonnes of carbon emissions - and we’re just getting started! While shopping, be sure to keep an eye out for the Climate Neutral Certified label.

To The Future

We’re thrilled to be one of many incredible, sustainability forward, Climate Neutral Certified brands.
